Evlution Nutrition is a (badly spelled) supplement company that are famed for their excellent products.

ENGN is an intense pre workout powder that Evlution Nutrition promise will: increase energy, power, & focus. They also say it will improve your cognitive performance, enhance your mood, increase muscular endurance, and delay fatigue. In short, everything that you could possibly want from a pre workout.

In this article we will be taking an in-depth look into the ingredients list of ENGN and reviewing this pre workout based on our findings.

Due to the massive amount of ingredients that it contains (and the controversial use of a proprietary blend) it would be almost impossible to review them all. Instead, we will take a look at the main ingredients, before giving you an overall verdict at the end of the article.

Ingredients List

ENGN Pre Workout contains 6 single ingredients and two complexes. The first complex is a Creatine Complex which contains Creatine Monohydrate, and Magnesium Creatine Chelate.

The second complex is called ENGN Mind To Muscle Matrix. This contains Betaine Anhydrous, Choline Bitartrate, L-Tyrosine, Agmatine Sulfate, Alpha-Glycerolphosphorylcholine, and Huperzia serrata extract.

The six ingredients that are not in the complexes are Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B12, and Beta-Alanine. These ingredients are mainly there to increase nitric oxide and ultimately increase blood flow to produce an excellent pump. Something that most pre workouts attempt to do.

Creatine ComplexCreatine is a fantastic pre workout ingredient, it is incredibly safe (most tested supplement of all time), and it is very effective. It can increase strength gains and hypertrophy [1], increase muscular endurance, increase power, and improve aerobic performance.

The dosage is quite low, a maintenance dose of creatine should be around 5g per day, but each serving only contains 2.2g [2].

Beta Alanine – This ingredient is added as it increases muscular endurance, increases power, reduces fatigue [3], and may have a small effect on fat mass.

ENGN Mind To Muscle Matrix – There are a couple of ingredients within this large proprietary blend that stand out in particular. Betaine Anhydrous, and L-Tyrosine. So we will concentrate on these two.

Betaine tends to be seen as a similar ingredient to creatine, offering a lot of the same benefits. Of course creatine is more powerful, so it could be the case (as examine.com points out) that creatine “washes out” the benefits of Betaine [4]. What Betaine does offer though is increased endurance, reduced fatigue, and increased anaerobic performance.

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid which tends to be added to pre workouts to improve cognitive performance. It can improve mood, reduce stress, improve memory, and help with concentration and focus.

Final Verdict

The use of two proprietary blends is a major setback for this supplement. Not divulging how much of certain ingredients are contained within their product should send up red flags to any customer.

Why hide your dosages unless they are under dosed?

That being said, there are a lot of effective ingredients within ENGN Pre workout, Creatine is great, Betaine is great, L-Tyrosine is a nice touch, and the pump ingredients (Niacin etc) are all good.

There is the potential for an excellent pre workout here, but until we get some label transparency from Evlution Nutrition, this pre workout will always be suspect.
